Here we usually face even stricter baggage allowances- and sometimes we do travel with heavier UW photo equipment. My choice was very light bag, regulator in the carry-on bag, I bought a lighter BCD (I confess after some rental gear experiences I missed my weight integrated stuff) a Cressi Light Jac. And I prefer liveaboard trips where I need 3 T-shirts for the whole week.:)

Regs and computer go into carry on. Dive bag is a soft backpack type, good for airplanes, good for on the boat for easy stowage.
13# suitcase is too impractical.

So it really boils down to this: You need new gear!

So I went and weighed all my gear in the travel bag and came up with 27 lbs! And it's all old stuff, like 15 years old. I didn't buy anything "travel" per se when I bought it, just middle of the road stuff. Seems like newer stuff is heavier? Although the travel bag is 4.4 lbs, soft backpack style.
