Listen, soccer is only boring to watch to people that don't understand how to play. -Jess

Most sports are more fun to play than they are to watch.

I used to play soccer (defender if pushed but main position in goal) and used to enjoy playing it. However watching it was somewhere on the list between watching paint dry and grass grow - incredibly boring.

Now ive switched to rugby full time and its FAR more entertaining.

Most sports are interesting when the teams and fans are into it.

Incidentally, the lightening strike mentioned in the first post of this thread has occured to football players here. A few years ago a high school player was struck while he and his team were leaving the practice field here. Since then all HS games are postponed if there is a chance the daily summer storms could be passing over or near the fields here.

I like soccer. the english premier league is good, but you do have to be in the mood for it...in every sport there are a number of injuries that can occur..and you have more chance of getting hit by lightneing playing golf....

Heh.. in FL you have a higher chance of being hit by lightening than you do of winning the lottery. In a 2 year span I personally saw the end results of 5 strikes to people. 3 of those hit had the initial strike in the head. Your chances increase by being outdoors within 5 miles of an incoming storm, increasing exponentially as the storm approaches. Anyone who is struck as a storm approaches and has not sought shelter is bringing the strike upon themselves.

They postponed the Arizona/Wisconson football game a few weeks back for lightning. An 88 min. halftime.

Oh, and those armor plated wussies?

Larry Allen. Dallas Cowboys. Benches 700 pounds.

You read that right.

700

Squats 900.

And runs the 40 in 4.77

Some wussie! Any soccer/rugby/Aussie rules boys want to make that attempt?

Yeah, but in Marion and Alachua counties, if you take shelter every time a storm comes within 5 miles, you wouldn't see any afternoon between 2 and 5 from about April to October! (not that anyone wants to be out in 95 degree, 95% weather, anyway!)

So lets see him without all the protective clothing crap.

Oh and manage to stay running around at those sort of speeds for 40 MINUTES without a break.

Thats the same as it is here. We have our daily thunderstorms that roll in and basically hang around for an hour and leave. The idea is not to be out running around places like open fields or golf courses..
