Went to Willis Pt. this afternoon (Friday). Vis was 3 feet until I went down to 60 feet deep, where vis was 30 feet or so. Nothing spectacular. It was of course, very dark. I tried again to get some long-exposure tripod shots, but only one sort-of turned out. As you can see, there isn't much on the wall (typical Saanich Inlet). With the long exposure, it looks alot brighter than it actually was. I went down to the cloud sponge, but I couldn't get the tripod to stay up on the sloping sand bottom. I think I'm done with the Inlet for the next month or so. The vis is too risky. Although..... my wife wants to go canoeing there tomorrow. I might have to bring my gear "just in case we capsize or something".

Greetings to all the Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island divers... and anyone else that reads this thread!!

Wondering if anyone has been to the Inlet in the past few days? And if so... what the vis was like?!?

Thanks..

I went to Willis Point last Sunday. The vis was decent for this time of year. I didn't notice any layers of different visibility; it appeared to be a constant 25' vis all the way down to at least 80'. There were, however, many large, mysterious, floating chunks of "stuff" in the water. I ended up with a head cold a few days later. Yuck.

Myself and Swankenstein will hit the inlet this week-end so I'm hoping we won't get up early to dive in pea soup.

I keep saying I won't dive the inlet this time of year, but I keep coming back. I guess the inlet is some kind of poor-man's casino. You get up early, drive up there, fight over parking, put on your gear, walk down to the water hoping for good vis and soon realise you're screwed. - Or maybe it's the one day in June with 100-foot visibility.

I just finish a dive at Willis Pt, the viz was as usual for this time of the year.
Under 80 feet it open up a bit, but because of the layer between 20 and 80ft it is
dark so bring a light. Also watch for the red jellyfish.

I was off work early today so I decided to go for a Tech dive at Willis Pt instead of looking at a computer screen all afternoon. What a waste of time the viz never clear even with my HID light I could only see between 5 to 10 ft ahead. So if you thinking of diving the inlet this week-end "don't" go somewhere else.

Cheers

Al

I went to Enterprise Channel this afternoon. I got off work early too (what a coincidence). Vis was around 25 feet from the surface all the way to the bottom. Current was crazy though. My family is visiting so I don't have time to scan the pictures. I'll post them later. Tripods and current don't mix well, but I managed to take a few.

Anyone been to the Inlet in the past few days?? Wondering what the vis is like as I try to plan a couple of weekend dives :)

Thanks..

I did a dive there today and the viz was pretty good 20 to 25 ft range between 40-60 fsw and in 10ft it must have been over 40'. Of course it could change during Saturday and Sunday but Hopefully it stay the same or better. I also saw two wolf ell one swam right by me at the bottom of the wall, he was about 4ft long there was also a lot of fish too bad swankenstein wasn't with me to take some pictures. the temp. of the water was about 49C at 130' and a amazing 63C at the surface. Have a good dive
