The question came up on an other thread.
.....Is the same as your primairy,or not.

- my former primary that I replaced ?

I voted same as primary. Primary is a SP S600. Octo is R190 on a necklace.

I voted same as primary. The brand is but I use a integrated inflator/octo
Primary is Sherwood Oasis and integrated is the Gemini.

On my doubles my primary and backup are identical and top of the line Zeagle Flathead VI's. On my singles rig, I use an Oceanic GT3 primary and an Alpha 8 backup. I find the Alpha breathes about the same as the GT3, but lacks the adjustment.

Same BRAND as my primary, but a Zeagle Envoy rather than a Zeagle DS-V...

My pony is an Aeris AT-400

There was no catagory for me. There were cheaper alternates but I got the left handed Oceanic Slim Line years ago and liked it just fine. It doesn't breath as well as any of my primaries, but that is part of the lesson I teach my students. Most alternates in the world don't breath very well, but if you can safely make it to the surface in an emergency it did it's job. Oceanic discontinued the Slim Line, then discontinued the left handed Slim Line 2. Now my main rig has their Swivel Octo, a low profile that goes both ways. It was considerably more expensive than the still available conventional Slim Line 2, but still not the same as a primary in breathing.

For scooters and fighting surge the cracking pressure really needs to be significantly higher than the primary to not free flow some.

mine are totally the same.

O well I forgot to pitch in my self.

1st set Atomic Ti1 + Ti1 octo
2nd set Oceanic D4/FDX10+alpha 8

cheers,
