SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A local diver is dead Saturday after being pulled out of the waters off Mission Beach.
It happened just before 1 p.m. San Diego lifeguards got a distress call from the Yukon diving site about a mile and a half offshore.
Lifeguards performed CPR on the unconscious diver on their rescue boat as they rushed him back to shore.
Despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead on the docks of Mission Bay.
"At this point, we don't know if his issues occurred on the surface or underwater. And so we don't even know if it's diving related at the moment," Lt. Nick Lerma of the San Diego Lifeguard Department said.
So far, the diver's identity has not been released.

SAN DIEGOAuthorities say a scuba diver has died off Mission Beach in San Diego.
Lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma says the diver was among four who planned to dive Saturday to a sunken Canadian destroyer.
Lerma says the man did not feel well and stayed behind while others dove. When they surfaced he jumped into the water, started to struggle and fell unconscious.
It is unclear whether the man ever performed a scuba dive, because investigators can't account for the time the others were under the water.
The other divers tried to help the unconscious man as the group drifted some 300 feet from their boat in a strong current.
Paramedics arrived and attempted to resuscitate the man, whose identity has not been released, but he was declared dead at the dock.
