I find that the major advantage is that you can adjust the tension on the lanyard to keep the octo from pulling out so easily in the first place.

I does ... water temps are easily 4-5+ degrees warmer as you head a little North of San Diego and get out of the Humbolt current ... of course it just gets cold again if you keep going North :05:
