Yesterday was the Delaware Divers kick off for the season and the weather could not have been better. Variable winds and flat seeas drove out to the edge with no fear of safe passage. With te intermittant reports and the anticipated holiday congestion on the wrecks we settled on the "screw wreck"
The screw is most notabley identified by her screw. It is prolly 8-10 feet across though no one ever bothered to measure it. It is upright at the end of a massive shaft running back from a large boiler that stands a good ten feet off the bottom as well. The wreck is breaking down more and more into a study in hull plates and sporadic vertical ribs. The bow lays off in the sand about 60 to 70 feet requiring a leap of faith and a reel to go visit. There is a old baby netzilla that is fairly low to the sand and not very menacing but netzilla just the same.
The wreck lies in 75fsw if you have a shovel and we all enjoyed an average run time of 70 minutes except the two brave souls who dove wet. The hang was a welcome 76 degrees after the bone chilling temp of 46 on the bottom. At this rate te bottom will not warm up till turkey day. Visibility was an easy 30 feet top to bottom with some red devils floating buy in the warm upper layer.
The boat limited on flatties on dive one, I stuck a 34 incher that everyone wished they had stuck. After a two hour interval dive two was a study in line laying and drills to pass the time. This is the stuff winter dreams are made of!
