I know guys that have been stationed there and they did get "island fever" after a about 3 years. But they didn't fish or dive or any of the "fun" stuff. If your choices are Kings Bay or Key West I would go for Key West any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I lived on the Rock for a brief while about six years ago. I had a very good job as far as jobs go in KW. I could actually afford my tiny, waaaaay overpriced s**thole studio in Old Town. Nonetheless, it took a about a month to figure out that FOR ME the idea of living in Key West and actually living in Key West are two very different things. It took a little longer to get out.

I think I would have loved the KW of 1958, 68, or 78- but then again that could be the romanticism talking that brought me there in the first place. I do know the Key West of 2008 is not for me- see Thal's post.

Today I spend a ton of time in the Keys working- usually every other weekend. I see no need to ever venture south of Big Pine Key. I plan on moving to the Keys in the next few years as I love it there, but KW wont be an option. It is sad what has happened to KW in the last few years as it is such a beautiful place as far as history, houses, and the true conchs.

KW is truly a small town, but it does not know it. I can't walk a block in town without hearing "HI Bob". It is like Mayberry on acid, you aren't sure what Floyd the barber is into but what ever it is it's cool.

Dude, you just made my day! That has got to be the funniest quote I have ever seen on Scubaboard.:rofl3:

lucky dog!! i would love to live where there was warm water diving year round

:D

I trying to decied what to do, I got a job offer in Key West ( naval air staion ) and I went over the books, I can afford to do it but does they keys get boring after a few months??

I would think if you like diving as much as the rest of us you wouldnt ask that question,Plus your not far from bahamas, and carib.
Miami and Ft lauderdale is not far away.
But Its Your Choice:confused:

Tell me about it. Everyone up North thinks it doesn't get cold in S. Florida. There were several times this past winter when it got so cold I had to close all the windows to my home.

We just got 8'' of snow and we may get 1 foot saturday nite.
Its spring man whats going on.
I want to live in the keys. :rofl3::D:rofl3:

What are your other options?

Can't think of to many places in the country
better than Key West? How often do you get a
chance to live on an island but can drive to the "Big City"
make that the "Magic City" in about 3 1/2 hours.
Go for it!!!!
