whereas i would be prepared to kill a hundred whales if it meant my child (or in my case my only niece) life

sorry CD - i dont understand your attitude so we will have to agree to disagree

I can live with that

They would. But millions would not, however millions would notice if the whales became extinct and countless more millions in the future would curse us for our recklessness.

I think millions would say"thats just terrible! What's on HBO tonight?"

Can't see the relevance of this at all, of course you'd do that you could to save the life of one of your own... but no-one has to kill anything that isn't a threat (and at last check japan is not being threatened by whales....)

I think millions would say"thats just terrible! What's on HBO tonight?"

But I think only a few would say "thats just terrible" if a Whaler or activist died.

I dont have HBO, I can not afford it as I give all my money to Sea Sheapherd :D

The whalers go out for what $$$$ knowing that activist are going out to stop you and some one may get killed. Your choice I hope the $ were worth it.
So doing a legal job is a reason in your book to expect to possibly get killed?

Do you really believe in the use of threats and violence to get others to do what you want? :shakehead:

Ok....enough.....I'm out of here.

From what I see Kim you live/work in a world where everyone doe's what is expected of them. Most of my life has been dealing with unreasonable people so yes sometimes force is needed to get there attention. Anything Else is taken as a weakness.

Sorry to see you go because I do not agree with you, but I am entitled to an opinion just as you are.

. Anything Else is taken as a weakness.

I would rephrase that as "Anything else is exploited as a weakness".

Kim you have a fondness of citing somethings legality as being proof of it being right or at least something that shouldn't be challenged outside of legal process. Well if the courage to act "illegally" against something you hold to be "repugnant" had not been present throughout most of the last two centuries, we would most likely have alot more slavery and women would probably still not be able to vote.

I think this thread is culturally insensitive.

Why shouldn't people eat whales? I understand they are quite nutritious.

You see - It’s all a question of cultural outlook: When I was living in Mongolia the locals, being Buddhist, were disgusted by westerners eating lamb and veal. They believed an animal had the right to enjoy life before being killed for its meat. They found the idea of killing baby animals for food to be repellent.

And yes. I’ve eaten whale, but stay away from veal and lamb.

Cheers,
Rohan.

You are no marksman, you have completely missed the point or you have a reading difficulty. The point being made is can we go on whaling while the numbers are so low.

My goodness you sound just like a Japanese whaling research paper! "Having butchered 4500 Minke whales the Fishy Asian Research and Science Executive (FARSE) (though of course I realise that whales aren't fish so technically it should just be ARSE) have released findings today that prove beyond doubt that Whales are quite nutritious"
