Bummer... that sucks. Hopefully it's not as bad as you think.

Any chance when you're up to it you can snap.some pics?

A friend dropped them (excuse the pun) off at our cylinder test / service centre to assess the damage and carry out necessary repairs. I'll ask them for the wrecked manifold when it's done and get some pics. I've stripped my regs and, fingers crossed, the left post might be savable with a new DIN barrel. Just running pressure tests now.

I'm surprised that no one else noticed them as you walked away. I volunteer at a local aquarium and see many people walk away from a standing tank, all the time. Before I ever say anything, I lean it over and lay it on deck. We have a policy to not walk away from an upright tank, but it seems to happen pretty often.

It’s a good policy but you can do this because you are staff.

You cannot just touch other people equipment in a random place, some will get angry at you, whether it makes sense or not, and … it’s not yours …

I'm just a volunteer at the aquarium and not staff. I have been there a while though. In reference to toughing someones gear... If I accidentally walked away from my unsecured tank, I would appreciate someone holding it securely and pointing out my accidental mistake. I would do the same to a stranger. Many of us have left a tank unsecured on a dive boat and I would think, appreciate the reminder. An unsecured tank is also dangerous to bystanders.

Happens to un-bungied tanks on a boat alot.
Some of us let out a yell ! :outtahere:

Ouch. Sympathies, that's one expensive brain fart. It seems to be happening a lot this year - my dive club has an end-of-the-year award for the biggest screw-up, and nominations are more numerous and severe this time than any other year I remember. The current leader left his pickup bed gate down after a dive and lost all his dive gear; that's hard to top.

I think it really depends on the surroundings, just like anything in life.. dive boat and tank not secure.. I have seen other divers and mates jumping in quick because that tank will fall over.

Aquarium and you're there working.. sure, by all means if it's policy.

Back on the dock or behind my vehicle.. don't touch my sh*t weirdo! All my tanks at the shop are standing upright.. all my tanks at the house are upright... I'd be pretty pissed if a random diver that just happened to be there started laying tanks down🤣.. could you imagine a guy (or gal) walking around the quarry just laying everyone's tanks down, lol.. wouldn't happen very long before he touched the wrong guys stuff!!

I always try to asses the tank situation for what makes the most sense... and I don't touch other people's stuff unless it's an absolute the tank is going over.

Unsecured on a boat, I’d fix it immediately or ask the owner to fix it, because it’s really dangerous.

Unsecured on a bench in a quarry, unless there is a major wind risk, I’d ask only if I know the owner or the group, but if I don’t know them, I’d just not stay close by.

I am like you for my own equipment, I’d prefer it to always be flat, if I happen to forget I’d be very happy for people to leave it flat for me.
