    Getting restarted

There are several clubs that may be able to help you. The other suggestion I would have is visit dive-oz (www.dive-oz.com.au), as it has more local divers.

    NAUI Log book

You should be able to buy some kind of replacement from a NAUI shop, If you can't have a look online for appropriate log book page, make your own pages based on the NAUI ones, or scan the last double page, and duplicate it, so you can print out a copy to add to your logs.

Reserve limit 500 psi always? What about doubles?

The only way it would be annoying to me, is if they told you as you were about to step in the water, that that was the limit and they would check your tank when you get back on board. Even then, it would only be annoying because you can't easily do the calculations to get the right values for...

    Diving in Melbourne

Elan, sorry must have missed that post. Where are you staying? Water temperature at the moment is around 16-17C. depending on how much you feel the cold, I would suggest at least using a 7mm wetsuit There is lots of great diving in and around Melbourne. If you have time to drive to either...

    Surface support station, whose responsibility?

There is a fair bit, but as this is a diving forum, you are bound to get this.... The reason my answer was: 1) The OP did not indicate they were going below 30m. (70-80 ft is maxing out at 25m) 2) The situation on a deep dive locally means that it would be difficult to have a surface support...

How far do you go to get a shot?

Thought as much... thanks for the replies. I didn't query it because I hadn't done enough photography, but it definately made me uncomfortable. Mind you, it could have come back to bite them when they disturbed this. Next time I will say something.

How far do you go to get a shot?

A bit of background. I was trying out my camera under one of the piers. It was basically a second attempt at getting it to work (the first time the port fogged up). Anyway there were two other divers under the same pier with cameras. They were turning over everything they could to see what...

    Surface support station, whose responsibility?

I don't do any tech diving, but the only time I have seen a hang tank was during my deep course. The instructor hung one for us to practice with. The standard practice here is a live boat, and they may not leave the line in the water either, which means you may not be able to come back to...

Sydney diver looking for some company

Cam, First thing I can suggest is trying diveoz (www.diveoz.com.au - The Biggest Site for Australian Scuba Diving Info). That is the local forum, and has more local divers on it. I don't know much about the scene in Sydney, but one option would be joining a club. It will provide you with the...

    Advantages of Trimix?

Billy, i don't dive trimix, but my understanding is you have the three gasses, Nitrogen, Helium, Oxygen in a tank. Those three gasses can be put into the tank in whatever proportion you feel like. Normally the setup is normoxic (21% O2, which allows a depth of 56M at 1.4PP02, XX% N2, and...

Gabe Watson case used to defend [QLD] Gold Coast dive instructor facing manslaughter

Yep, that was the context. as uberdude said, it travels well, so if you are even semi close, you can hear someone cooee, so not within cooee, would automatically mean that you are not close to the person.

Gabe Watson case used to defend [QLD] Gold Coast dive instructor facing manslaughter

Cooee is a type of call. Not within cooee is a term of phrase to indicate not even close. Good to see the instructor cleared. A manslaughter charge is pretty harsh if the papers are even semi accurate in their reporting.

    Solo Travel Destination

What are your plans for Australia? There is lots of diving in lots of different places in Australia that you can dive, some of which are relatively close to major cities. From a local point of view, there are lots of shore and boat drives within driving distance of Melbourne (as an example)...

A Few Pictures Taken on a Nikon D7000/Aquatica set up. Great Barrier Reef.

Adam, Great pictures, where were the photos taken? I love diving here, though all of my diving so far has been further south. Some great animals to see.

    Moving to Melbourne

Too late... It has been noted :D There is plenty good diving in Melbourne, both from boats and the shore.... The only catch is some of the diving will take you a while to get to, as you may have to drive a distance to get to the heads. Melbourne is basically based around a big bay, so there is...

    DMs checking qualifications and liability

The company (MDS) were prosecuted in 2007 under the OH&S laws for not maintaining a safe environment for persons other than employees. The company was fined $200,000. This is a follow on case. I have seen the main operator down here, checking certs and experience for dives, especially for more...

    Soft Weights Confiscated by Airline?

At the moment I am not that keen to visit the US, and the main reason is the hassles of traveling in by air. The rules for customs and immigration, plus the TSA, make the US less enticing to visit. At the moment my partner and I would prefer to try countries that are not so heavy handed with...

    Watson Murder Case - Discussion

Appellant courts are normally dealing with issues of law and process, and will generally only mention the facts as needs, they do not need to deal with all the facts, as many of them will be irrelevant to the matter they are hearing, which is why the lower court did the wrong thing in the...

Want to practice SMB deployment alone - Safe?

Mulla, I will second what Bob said, it isn't wise to be diving alone with your level of experience. Even in shallow water, it is easy enough for something to go wrong and you need some extra time to develop the skills you need prior to diving solo. On top of that you are thinking about trying...

    Sling tank or doubles.

Colliam, Thanks for the feedback. Regs are about due for a service, so I will ask if it can be changed to DIN. The tank ideas are greatly appreciated. I have noted the comment on the training, and I plan to look at my options.
