We're going towards the end of May and staying at Firefly/Secrets Cabins on Negril. The missus doesn't dive but is happy to read on the beach or watch bubbles from the dive boat. Obviously I don't want her to hate me diving so I'm self-limiting to 2 mornings out of the 6 days we're there...
Great thread folks. My Suunto Mosquito may or may not be on its way out so I'm shopping for a replacement. The Zoop actually looks like a good replacement for me and I'm glad to see some positive reviews.
Getting back to the Mosquito, the battery access door seems bound up so I can't replace...
Yes it's SPRING!!! (Returning to diving and Scubaboard after a long winter)
June 12th and 26th look good for me. I'll also be there Sunday May 15th. One of the guys I work with finishes his open water that day and I promised I'd come out and dive with him. He won't finish until...
Damn.. missed the Central Florida one by 2 weeks and it looks like I'll miss this a few days. I'll be in Palm Beach Gardens from Sunday the 12th - Thursday the 16th. By the 19th I'll be back in cold Chicago trying to remember just why i live here.
Well have fun all...
Bob
Another one bites the dust. Sorry should have said something earlier. I lost track of this thread after the earlier October outing was nixed. Have fun everybody.. damn and I'm really needing to rehydrate my gills too.
You'll prolly hear my crying all the way from here in Illinois,
Bob
Hey Ann,
Last night the weather channel had a quick 2 min blurb on the reef. They had some marine biologist saying it would take years to recover. I went diving WPB the weekend before Jeanne and it was pretty bad.. I can only imagine what others saw after 2 storms messed things up.
It...
Wooo hooo I never played with sharp things underwater ;)
Haigh Quarry, Kankakee, IL. Sunday, October 24, 2004, at noon. They provide the pumpkins, you provide the entry fee of $20, your dive gear, and carving instruments.
Bob
I was out there on the 18th, and in the current it was about 10-15 vis. But with all the sand Francis dumped on the reef there wasnt much to see anyway... hell it was a full time job keeping your buddy in sight. Just like diving in the quarries here except the water temps were 85 instead of 65...
I'll echo that. Went out with Jim Abernathy Saturday morning. Sand everywhere.. I saw a barrel sponge that was about a foot tall and was loaded with sand to the top. Lots of busted coral and very few tropicals around. It looks a lot like the damage the trees took topside.
Bob
Wish I read this note this Sunday morning instead of Sunday evening. Did a boat dive Saturday off Palm Beach. Things were sure messed up. 10-15 vis and everything covered in sand. The dive master said she didn't even recognize it as the reef shes been diving for years now.
Bob
Wooohooo looks like I can be first to greet you to the best way to spend your suface intervals! Looking forward to reading your dive reports from that area of the world.
Bob
Jess, the skills for the open water portion are the same skills you already did... just not as many. There is nothing new added to take you by surprise. I found the open water to be much easier then the pool, especially the bouyancy fin pivot and hovering. Oh yeah.. the CESA was way easier...
Thanks for the heads up.. SB rocks. Well I'm still going to try and get in a boat dive this weekend. Getting ready to start dialing my boat list now... It's a shame Rampage is no longer an option. By the way thanks metaldector... great posting on boat status.
Bob
Anybody up for it? Looks like high tide is at 11:36am, for Lake Worth.. what kind of correction is needed for the bridge?
I'll be staying in Palm Beach Gardens, but I have a car so anything within an hour is fair game.
Bob
Now that Ivan ls safely out of the picture whats the status on SE Florida diving? Anyone gonna be around this weekend?
I'm still trying to find a boat that does Friday afternoons.
Bob (I even showered.. wonder why nobody has responded. ;) )
Sounds great, I'm looking for a beach dive next weekend (18th-19th) when I'm in the area. Although I'd like to hang around the Palm Beach area, Deerfield isn't too far
Any place to rent some air in the area?
Bob
I have a trip similar to Tom's but mine is 2 days after Ivan's expected landfall (Thursday).
Hopefully McCoy at Orlando will be open and hopefully the turnpike south to West Palm won't be loaded with evacuated residents returning home. But the biggest hopefully is that my g/f will have...
Not really set on WPB but I'm staying in Palm Beach Gardens visiting my g/f. I was picking solely based on location, but certainly open to all suggestions.
Bob (Yeah call me a parrot head too)
Damn, Rampage was on my short list for the upcoming weekend of the 18th, 19th. Back when I was planning a July/August trip, Rampage was the boat most suggested. I didn't get to dive with them, since they don't schedule a Friday afternoon trip.
Bob (back to web research for dive boats)
