    Diving in Maui and Honolulu

I was in Oahu and Maui the last part of March and the beginning of April. Went diving with Kaimana Divers (Gabe Scotti- Scottitheduck on the forum here) and would highly recommend them. Dove the YO257 and the Seatiger, Honu all over the wrecks, fish but no Atlantis sub to moon (kidding- we...

UK Diver - Thinking about diving in Pensacola

There are some great wrecks right off of Pensacola, including the USS Oriskany, the "Big O". While this is probably too deep- flight deck at 145 fsw- you can always take the PADI deep course while there, and do the dives on the Big O, as the superstructure rises quite high from the deck. This...

Sharing photos from my trip to French Polynesia

Here you go- I would love to see more photos. Very nice pics, vibrant colors, nice composition. Did you do any post-processing?

    BC back order

Scott, After that dive I took a look at the weight pockets, and it appeared that the threading had loosened, allowing enough of a gap for the soft weight to come out. It was the third dive with that bcd, I had not messed with the ripcord system. Pocket was zipped shut. It wasn't a big deal...

    BC back order

I had a three lbs soft weight fall out. Didn't figure it out till I was trying to compensate for a sudden increase in buoyancy, looked down at the bottom and thought,"someone lost a #3 soft weight!" when I saw my initials, I felt a little foolish. Did solve the buoyancy issue. Got the weight...

    BC back order

I've ordered the brigade in the past, and it took them a week to get it in, and another to get it to me. Didn't charge for shipping. As a side note, order the weight pockets. Using weights in the BCD without the removable pockets means the weights WILL fall out. Don't know why it doesn't come...

What equipment is essential to buy/own versus rent, in your opinion?

I have a scottyvest, and you can carry enough to go on a weekend trip without checking a bag! Only problem is that a fleece looking jacket on a flight to the BVIs might look kinda funny......

    Instructor Training,Worthwhile Investment???

i agree with everything stated by blouderjohn and eponym, as instructing is only an avocation for me also, and not a real source of significant (multiple large pizzas:D) income. I think you should look at what eponym suggested, and look into getting in with a dive shop as an employee, and...

Wife doesn't want to dive anymore due to botched freeflowing reg incident

Clifpiper, an interesting point you made was that she did not panic and bolt until she tried to breathe off of your octo. I know you said that your octo was "meh", and that she felt like she couldn't get a breath. While this feeling may have been caused by the stress of the situation, have you...

Gauging Interest in Scuba Reality Show

:shocked2:. Now I definitely DEMAND PHOTOGRAPHIC PROOF!! I spent five hours at the pool yesterday, was relaxing with a beer and then read your post. Wife wanted to know why I was standing in a cold shower:D. What till she sees the bill for that defogger!:shakehead:

    Opinion about equipment..Which is better?

You have opened pandora's box! I have spent many dry hours reading the impassioned debates about the best gear/configuration on this site, so based on that, and my personal experience here are the answers: 1. Best gear is the one that fits you, your diving style, and needs. 2. Price should not...

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

DandyDon, you are correct. That was only an appraisal of the investigation, and how things have changed after the Austrailia case.

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

I would guess that the recent high profile case that occurred in Australia and just went thru the legal process here in the states has raised the level of law enforcement investigations of scuba related deaths, especially where there is a relationship between victim & dive buddy/witness beyond...

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

Highwing, I see it now. Confusing with two J. Hays. Hope that this tragedy doesn't negatively impact the other instructors/employees of Splash that had no part in the accident. It has changed my student:instructor ratio thinking for quarries.

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

Hmmm, interesting. I can't find him, and the only j hays is Janet hays, his wife I presume. Putting in the member number only returns what tursiops posted, no name attached. Where did you get that number? Also, splash dive is not listed as a naui dive center either.

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

I believe the current NAUI website lists active instructors, and this is automatic. Inactive status, etc. does not show up when you use the search tool for instructors in a given area.

Gauging Interest in Scuba Reality Show

Hey, here's an idea: Jersey Divers! It's about a bunch of guys diving off the coast of jersey looking for stuff/people that have been tossed into the water over the years.....jimmy Hoffa, those mythical concrete overshoes, gambling machine, etc. I'd watch that. Gotta be more interesting than...
