During whale season you never know where one or more will pop up. Often times the cow and calf are closer to shore than the bulls. In my 13 years of living and diving here only once did I encounter a cow and calf while underwater.

Taking a whale watch cruise is the only guaranteed way to see them up as close as the law allows (100 yards). That's where a 10X zoom camera comes into play.
