If you need the pressure gauge anyway, the Atmos 2 console
may be a better route.

You can still find the compass for that console if you look around.
I saw them new on Froogle a while back for around $50.
It hooks on to the end of that console.

In comparing the ATMOS 2 to the Xr1, the ATMOS 2 adds:
nitrox, a bigger log (24 dives instead of 12) , PC downloadable,
a pushbutton backlight, and an automatic safety stop timer.

By using the download capability, the PC can compute the
average depth for a dive and then that can be used to calculate
a SAC rate which is very useful for gas planning.
(you do have to buy a download cable which runs $50-$100)

Comparing the two I think the Atmos 2 is the better way to go. Its only about $100 more but seems to be a lot more flexible in case I do decide to start using nitrox in the future.
