Anyone out there want to try a shore dive in the Norfolk/Va Beach area? I realize it will be less than ideal conditions, but it would be nice to get wet some day after work since the days are getting longer. We probably knock the whole thing out in less time than it takes to drive to Rawlings one way.

I just want to put it out there for folks to keep it in mind for a few weeks from now. I know with the crappy weather the last few days vis will be zero, but maybe later this month or next it will be doable.

I'd rather be diving in marginal conditions after work than sitting in traffic thinking about diving...

:( I won't be diving for a while. . . I will be at a beach with no water though. . .

hi, new to the area. how is the diving in va beach area? what type of diving?

Hi there & welcome to the area. Va. Beach can be either some of the best or most challenging diving you will do. Sometimes both in the same day. Most of the time it is boat diving to wrecks. Vis can run from less than 5ft to 40-50ft. We have 2 local dive shops that run trips. Lynnhaven http://www.ldcscuba.com/ that runs their own boats (45 or 50 fters holding 20 divers & Dive Quartershttp://www.divequarters.com/ which charters a 31ft boat that holds 6 divers.
Go to the 2nd page of this forum & it will show a trip report I did from March 31 & April 01 & also a beach dive in Norfolk, shown as unknown wreck report.

thanks for the info. i'm only about 3 hours away so i will definitely check it out this summer (i don't like cold water :D )

Hi Guys!

I'll be up for it toward the summer. If we do a beach dive, keep in mind that we need good weather for a few days, low winds and an incoming tide if you even HOPE to see something underwater. Of course, if you don't mind NOT seeing anything and just like to get wet, I'd be up for that too.

If someone has a small boat (maybe 21 to 25 FT) we could do a short hop to the CBBT islands and a few Ches Bay wreck sites I know :eyebrow: too. I know Lynnhaven also has offshore night dives during the week as well.

Hey RAD, are we going anywhere this weekend?

WOW! That's being OPTIMISTIC on that south bound I-95 DC traffic! :D

Sorry, been out of town on travel the last few days......good to see the response. I have been emailing a guy in Nags Head about some wrecks down there off the beach in about 18 feet of water, about 100 yards offshore. Looks promising. I'm out of town again next week, but maybe in May we can do a short road trip.
