I went back and watched the You Tube video on servicing the Aquarius 1st stage. I’ve got a crusty old Aquarius 1st in my chowder box and thought it would be good experience for me to service it this Winter. Unfortunately, with Bryan’s passing, the VDH rebuild kits shown in the video are unavailable. Does anyone know where I can source an Aquarius service kit? (factory or aftermarket will be OK) I doubt I’ll use it outside of a pool test, I just want to see what the process is like, and with this old Aquarius 1st,, I’ll just be paying the price of the kit to have the fun and experience. Any suggestions?
TIA ~ 🐸

That's how I started (Ebay reg to tear apart as a learning excercise).... Now I have a serious problem (and still dive that reg!). lol.

Best,

James

….I did the same G F. ‘Crack open’ your reg. ( carefully) Having a repair tech working with you on a well tooled ‘bench’ helps too. A copy of the schematic and written tutorial on line will help as well. Many are documented, especially on vdh. I started the same way….how I located sources of materials and information. I was later complimented by a few repair techs I know saying I should take a course and actually do it as a ‘job’ even part time. They were impressed by my self taught skills. The breath-test and the ‘pool test’ makes it come together for sure. I dive regs I have serviced without reservation but have safety measures such as ‘octo’ on my setup when possible.

The MR 12 IIs needed new seats in the 2nd stage and I added new ‘phragms. They work great now.

I took the PADI “Equipment Specialist” course about 1994, but it was pretty much a loss. I just thought I’d try this otherwise worthless Aquarius to see how I could do. One aspect I’m dealing with is that I’m over 50 miles from the “nearest“ LDS where I could see work done and I don’t know whether he’d be interested in having me bother him. Now that I know where to get the kit and have sorted out the tools I’ll need, I’ll probably give it a shot.
Thanks again to all who responded.

If you don't already have it, here is the Aquarius service manual matching the 1075-00 parts kit linked earlier.

and if you ever run out of kits, punch a seat from a nylon bread board, tap it in then trim it

G F, you are going to be fine. Again that’s how I started. I may be able to help if you have questions. Hands - on is best way to learn and actually accomplish a successful repair. My work bench is my kitchen island. 😁🤿 my 1st ‘victim’ was a Healthways gold label DHR. …regulator surgery a success. 👍
