I own a Aquasphere 1.5mm Winter Wetsuit that I was planning to use for tri swims. It's supposed to be good for 50-60 degrees water. I was wondering if anyone has used this for scuba? Will it be warm enough for So Cal waters? I put it under a 7mm wetsuit in Monterey and it was fine but not sure about wearing it by itself...

A 1.5 mm wetsuit *might* keep you warm in 80 degree water on scuba. By the time you make it into the low 60s, you'll be hypothermic in no time. Get a drysuit or a nice thick 2-piece 7mm wetsuit.

Keep in mind that the air that comes out of a scuba tank, due to adiabatic cooling, is at or below freezing, so you are not only being chilled from the environment, but also from the inside out with every breath.
