We returned a bit ago from a week long liveaboard (on the Nimrod Explorer - great boat and crew!). It was awesome, and we actually managed to run across dwarf minke whales, 3 of 5 dive days!! Pictures below:

The trip was Cooktown south to Cairns, stayed two days on ribbon reefs 10 and 9, then out to Osprey Reef for a day, then back to Ribbon #5/6... we saw the whales at both of the Ribbons and spent a few hours with them at each stop.
Temps were 78-80F, vis was moderate (40-70' generally), and conditions were great.
Wonderful trip all around.
