Leaving for Bonaire October 21, would appreciate hearing from anyone about current dive conditions and water temperature? Also, has here been much rain/mosquitos?

Thanks

I live on Curacao, approx 60km to the west of Bonaire, and I travel to Bonaire at least once a week. The "rain" season has been very dry so far, you'll see the salinas (salt pans) are almost dry when driving from the airport into town. So, not much rain since summer, not that many mosquitos (well, certainly far less than last year). Water temp is about 30 degrees Celsius at the surface, 28 degrees Celsius at 30m. A mild current is mostly flowing north, nothing to worry about.

Just enjoy!

We just returned from Bonaire last Saturday. The reported water temperature was 85 degrees by the dive masters. However, my computer consistently read 82 degrees. I can tell you that diving is a swim suit and dive shirt was perfectly comfortable. I also dove in a 3mm full suit and that was comfortable.

The visibility was great on most dive sites with the northern sites having a little bit better viz. Klein Bonaire had great viz also. South was a little bit stirred up for some reason.

We found very few mosquitoes at Plaza Resort. I think it has been pretty dry down there recently. Sitting outside at night was great!!

I've been to Bonaire a couple of times and the mosquitoes will come and go but if it starts raining, the will come to make up for lost time. I have never seen the water any cooler than 80 F. Yea!!!:cheerleader::cheerleader: No shrinkage..

We dove Eden Beach yesterday afternoon and Alice in Wonderland last night (spotted eagle ray!) and both recorded 84 deg on my computer. I dove a full lavacore suit and Jenna dove a two piece 3mm. Both super comfy.

Oh, and while I have no prior trips to reference, the mosquitos are really aggressive in mornings and evenings. Worse than Curaçao, for sure. But way fewer lion fish here in Bon, so I'll take it.

S4S, thanks for the report. Glad to hear mosquitos not an issue at Plaza as we will be staying in an apartment next door. BTW did you dive the Plaza house reef? How is the entry? Is it worth a night dive?

Also thanks to other posters for their input.
