Might try these. Not sure if they fall into the expensive overkill department, but they work nicely on my express tech for warm water diving. They attach to the back plate as well as looping on the webbing. Makes them nice a secure. YMMV Zip Touch Weight System

Thanks for your input everyone - I had decided to go with the XS velcro pockets, but my LDS hooked me up with some nice used Dive Rite 16lb pockets. Pretty happy with them!
