DiverBuoy:
Ok before this takes too many tangents, can I get clarification ... you've decided on the 28th to use the Catalina Express or Flyer or one of those $35-45 shuttles over to Avalon is this correct?

I'd have worked to arrange a day off for Anacapa or Santa Cruz ... but I'm burned out on Casino Point diving and really Catalina diving for that matter.
Nope! Sorry for the confusion.

On Wed. the 28th, the plan is to charter the Express Diver out of Long Beach to Catalina for the day (I think this is the LINK), not ferry over and dive. $95.00 incl. air.

Then Thursday the 29th, do some shore diving in Laguna.

Ah that's the confusion ... the organization is called Express Divers (they do more than charter) ... the name of the boat is the Island Time. I just dove off the Island time last Friday (8 days ago) for a night lobster dive - caught 3 giant bugs too. This boat has the advantage of only burning 1/2 of your day - freeing you to do other things, however the disadvantage is it's a "cattle" boat. The tanks are underfilled and color coded - dive red tank first, the white tank second. You cannot bring your own tanks. Food is apple slices, crackers and water (ok there was a thermos of coffee last week but before anyone could pour a cup, someone spilled it - c'est la vie). The other issue is the captain only takes you to beginner spots on catalina - which are so over used (and fished) they look like it. I'll have to pass this time around folks, but have fun. It's the perfect boat run to catalina for busy people (or tight schedule).

If you are extending any offers for the Laguna dive on the 29th, I can meet at 6am on the 29th as long as we decend before 7am I can get one in before work.

One more thing, regarding the night dives on the Island Time last week ... everyone on the boat had over a hundred dives experience so we all got to dictate the dive locations, that does make a huge difference in the experience.

Not a bad option and we could have some control over dive sites too!
Yeah...

You need to skip work. The computers will still be there when you get back...

Rick Inman:
Yeah...

It's a matter of perspective ...

I'm the manager so there is some flexibility, or I'd not even be able to dive before work, because I have to tell the team I'll be in late. If I was out of the water by 8-8:15 ... dried off, post dive discussion, log books signed, and on the road by 9:00am ... I would be at the doorstep of the my office by 9:45am. That's nearly 2 hours later than normal <grin>. But frankly there is no way I'm burning a whole precious PTO day just to dive a place I've been to already a thousand times. If you guys were doing Anacapa or Santa Cruz, now THAT would be worth it :).

Oh btw, the calendar for the Island Time has a very light schedule for the winter, did you call to make sure they would cater to your group midweek? Trips on Wednesday is not something they normally do.

DiverBuoy:
wetrat, out of curiosity when you called did you talk to Rick or Chris at ExpressDivers?

DiverBuoy,

Actually, I just left a message. We still need to confirm for sure with Express Divers that the Island Time is available on December 28th. I'll let everybody know with a post in Trips and Local Marketplace as soon as I have confirmation and more details.

John
