We did the same thing last week, (based on previous board recommendations!) but chose to go to Divetech/Turtle Reef and dive the mini-walls. Very nice shore dives and "no" crowds. (There were 30 or so huge Tarpon in the tarpon cave area). Georgetown/Eden Rock areas were swarming with people from all the cruise ships. Turtle Reef is a short cab ride 15 - 20 minutes. ($8 a person) For the return, we caught the bus for only $2.50, a real deal. Knowing what I do now we would take the bus both ways. Plenty of rental equipment also, we only took our snorkel gear.
You only need reservations if you want a guide. They also rent scooters which look like alot of fun.

We were the 1st divers that day and only saw a couple of others between dives. The cracked conch resturant is on-site and a great place to spend between dives. The Rum Cake factory and Turtle Farm are within walking distance also.

Have fun -
