Simple joint-pain DCS comes on with tisue bubble growth as can be seen with ultrasound. When repressurized, the symptoms abate. It looks clearly like a gas bubble effect. Hours later - untreated - other pathologies occur.

I have seen many test subjects with many Doppler bubbles. Usully nothing happens. Many people are on bubble oxygenators for two hours. Longer will produce problems but less is quite safe. And that is a lot of bubbles.
