Welcome , I think you'll find lots of wildlife in Monterey. There are basically 4 different environments Rock wall at breakwater, sand flats, kelp beds and metridium fields. There are also some small wrecks ( a sailboat and a barge that I know of. A little further and deeper there are walls and pinnacles. The viz further out is often up to 60 feet. This is commonly discussed at ba_diving.com

Check it out there's a wealth of info and experience there for Monterey.
