Unmounting it once a year or once every other year is worth the pain in my mind given the benefits. I'm using the smaller bungee (1/8"?) and running two loops (obviously one per side). Loose ends on the inside of the back of the boot (that is, the loop that goes over my wrist goes through the outside holes). I then tied a double fisherman's knot and tucked the knot into the groove. Ditto on the other side. The whole thing sits completely flat on my arm and is quite secure. It takes a few efforts to get it sized perfectly.

thanks, I will mount it tonight..
thanks folks

folks can this be done without the mounting from DSS? keep in mind i'm in singapore and I can't exactly buy a mounting for it. thanks

Tobin ships to Singapore.

But I suppose you could cut the strap, and place two holes in each stub and accomplish much the same thing.

I removed the standard strap of my Mosquito and replaced it with a super cheap elastic band... actually the same kind of band I've used for my compass and as a replacement for the standard rubber straps of my knife... super cheap... super handy... even in winter time with freezing cold fingers, no fiddling around anymore with nasty straps and buckles... See the pictures (sorry folks, my website is in Dutch, but the pictures are "multilingual"...) on http://www.torpedo.be/kompas.html and http://www.torpedo.be/mes.html

where would one come about some of these super cheap elastic miricle straps
and how would one tie them off? without a huge knot i suppose but how?

Huge knot - NOT! :)

I quite like the crimps (and crimping tools) you can get here: http://www.reefscuba.com/bungee.htm
