Hi everyone! Will probably be getting the BP/W setup from Deep Sea Supply, but I really don't know what's the best setup for me and I hope that I could get some advice here :)

I'm a 5'10 male weighing 176lbs (man, this sounds like a personal ad!) and I'd be diving in tropical waters. In the short term, I'd be doing single tank dives. What sort of setup should I get? Should I get a plastic backplate? Should I pay an extra 20 bucks for the new Torus wings instead of the LCD, and why?

Hmm... that should be it for now. Thanks in advanced for your answer! :D

DSS's products are all top shelf! Their customer service is fantastic as well. Unfortunately I had already purchased my BP/W when I came across DSS. I use several of their other products and love them. I always think ahead and would recommend getting the SS plate and a wing that supports how you dive now, and how you plan to dive inthe next 3 or so years.

I use the 20lb LCD wing for tropical diving, I'm about your height and weight. It is a sweet low profile wing. I chose the LCD over torus since I like to be able to access the bladder for possible repairs, but the only actual wing casualty I've ever had was a broken zipper on another brand's wing, so go figure. However the DSS zippers are much more robust so I don't worry about it. Either one will be a really nice wing, and diving a 3mm suit or so, 18-20 lbs is just right.

Echo the suggestion to PM Tobin . . . He'll make sure the setup you buy is something you'll be happy with.

Diving tropical water, with minimal exposure protection, you probably could use the Kydex plate and one of the smaller wings, but Tobin can go through the pros and cons of his various wings better than I can.

Talking to Tobin on the phone made me want to purchase my BP/W from him. Outstanding information, he'll make your head spin but, you will understand why he suggests this or that.

Give him a call or e-mail, you won't be sorry.

Are you going to be diving only Al 80s down there? I know on my Caribean set-up, I only needed the 17lb Torus wing (simly because it was the smallest) - I'm 5'9" 160... Really depends on how much weight you use now though (I use 4-6 in my plastic BCD)....

I talked with Tobin earlier this week. Has anyone tried his travel wing? It's not on the website yet. I'm torn-- travel wing, LCD, or torus?

I bought the 30# LCD. I'll use it for any diving I go one. Tropical or not. Of course, I'm a big guy, 6' 6".
