As said, rent, study, compare, devour these forums with your eyes open. Pay attention to locales, types of diving and religion.
Most reviews are either incomplete, focused (This years new....! or 10 light weight....!) Odds are you are not working in that same pigeon hole. While some data is valuable it may not address your concerns or values. You really need to do the legwork.
SCUBA DIVING mag probably does the most serious stuff on a regular basis but it's only a tiny part of becoming gear savvy.
