Amazing how names continue to stick, Scuba Diving has not been owned by Rodales for a couple of years, having gone through at least two publishers since leaving the Rodale's corral.
It is scuba diving's in house review column. I find the reviews to be pretty objective, especially when compared to the old Skin Diver, whose reviews were nothing more than an infomercial for the accompanying advertising, but everyone knew that was the case, right?
They do publish technical information on their protocol and have had some pretty unique ways of presenting data graphically that let you easily understand the tradeoffs between quality, performance, and price. All in all, i think it is about as objective an assessment as one can get in a situation where the best gear is the stuff I use, otherwise I wouldn't be seen dead in it.
