Hoosier:
If then, how can it get 2.5 mile/gallon?

What is the barometer of efficiency on the boat?

Well, big boats get really bad mileage. I have a dive buddy with a boat that's around 20 feet long (I can't recall the exact measurements) with twin 150 horse outboards - and he averages 2 mpg, if he's lucky. Most of the time, he pulls around 1 to 1.5 mpg.

A 100 foot boat averaging 2.5 mpg? Pretty darn impressive, IMO.

5,000 mile is pretty much impressive with 2,000 gallon. It means you can hit to China from CA.
