The new tanks I have bought came with a fresh hydro and visual (and oxygen clean for that matter). They also came full of air.

Used tanks cost a little more than the purchase price since you won't have as much time before the next inspection.

that VIP and hydro cost thing...hehe

Actually one of the guys I work with says
he has two AL80s that I can just have for
free if he can find them....that would be way
sweeeeeeet

New tank prices vary by area. In my area Sport Chalet sells new AL80s for $109.00. Used tanks can be a risk if they are older. For imformation on what not to buy see
http://www.scubabomb.freeservers.com/

Catalina tanks are ok, regardless of year of mfg as they never used the suspect alloy. Luxfier, or any other tank made before 1988 is a real risk.

I got four AL80s and an AL50 that way.

Four of them are getting shipped to Luxfer as soon as they are empty since they fall into their buyback program.. I'll be getting a $50 certificate for each, so fresh tanks will be in the collection fairly soon.

If you get Luxfers, you might want to look into this.

My friend just brought in his 2 Luxifer AL80s today
for me....I don't know how old they are but
they both have the boots and covers....he
said they both need VIP, hydro, Orings replaced,
burst disc replaced....

Pasley thanks for that link...very informative

Before you sink any money into those cylinders, check the initial hydro date and take a look at this:

Don, one tank has an original hydro of 1983
and the other has a hydro of 1990. I think
I can only get credit for the older tank.
Is that right? Also does Luxfer pay for
the shipping cost of the old tank?
