Leaving your transmitter attached is pretty standard and hardly a problem if the gear is cared for.

Definately recommend a reg bag or hard case, after spending all the money on a reg setup a few extra dollars just makes sense.

I change the battery on my transmitter after every dive. Those 5 dives a day are a killer though...man.

What brand do you have and is it user replaceable?
 
Suunto D9...I leave transmitter on 1st stage and just make sure reg is protected and padded.
