although it is commendable to practice self restraint and don't go deep too soon it is sometimes hard to avoid. depending on where you go (let's say cozumel for arguments sake) you will end up on a boat going for a first morning dive to 80-100 feet or more. that's just standard procedure and they won't tell their boat full of divers to dive a shallow site because of you. are you going to sit out the dive and only do the shallower second dive? it takes a better man than me to do that. never seen it happen. most beginners will not speak up and just go where the boat drops the group. often that group is a mixed bag of beginning and experienced divers and the majority of experienced divers tend to make sure they won't have to dive a beginner site. that's how good intentions take a deep plunge.

Vacation time
THE most dangerous time of your diving
SO many dive sites so little time
I'VE been to dive locations where the shalowest dive is
100ft Water temp tropical vis 30m
the urge to dive as fast as we can fill cylinders
really max's the computers.
but sanity prevailed and some dives we spent hanging on the line at max depth for the last dive gazing longingly at the bottem
