What ScubaRich said...the Jersey Roll. A giant stride, seated entry or backroll may be impractical when the seas are rough, not to mention while wearing the huge amounts of dive gear (100 cf or greater steel doubles, two AL 80 cf deco bottles) demanded for some of the more aggressive deep dives in the Northeast. More practical to just kneel and fall into the ocean under those circs - or get into the water any which way you can without hurting yourself, the boat, or anyone else!

Affectionately known off of New Jersey as the Jersey Flop.

Yup, the preferred entry on the Dina Dee. Left knee on the gunwale, flip to your left side, hope for the best!

On dive charters, we ensure our patron's air is on, and we insist that they put some air in their BC's before entry (slightly positive). When exiting off the front of the dive boat, people either use giant stride, or more commonly, they sit and do a forward roll. You land on your back and then the air in the BC pulls your head above surface s you can signal "OK". It's a very easy way to enter and reduces the likelihodd you'll bang the tank on the front edge of the platform.

I have a very good friend who is confined to a wheelchair, we go diving together regularly. You should see some peoples faces when we tip him out of his chair into the water and throw his gear in after him!
:rofl4:
