In my quest to the ultimate tropical single tank rig I found these aluminium bent D-rings: anello ALLUMINIO azzurro - Moschettoni, anelli, O-ring

I haven't tried them, so the only thing I can say is that they exist and that they probably are lighter than titanium d-rings if they existed.

I also found aluminium cam bands, from agir-brokk. I use them and like them a lot. They are lighter than SS and very solid. cbalu082.jpg
 
I didn't read through the entire thread, but have you considered a soft harness and wing to keep weight low? I only travel with that configuration and keep my backplates at home.
