I would say put the shears on and do a dive to test it out.

I've been tucking my 7 footer under my shears for 3 years now, it works fine, and I had no issues during my intro to tech class with it.

This spring I'm gonna get a can light and probably have nothing but issues as I get used to it lol.

I used shears once, didnt feel right, so I got my can light!
 
I tried the Halcyon pocket early on and it works OK for tucking the hose, but is bulky in that location. I had pockets glued onto my wetsuit legs and just tucked the hose in the waist belt until I got a can light.
