Inaugural Disaster Scenario Clinic... Dutch Springs, July 8, 2012

A buddy of mine once remarked that a great dive is one where everything goes perfectly, and when the team surfaces, one diver is in full kit, one has half her gear missing and the third is butt-naked.

While that scenario is a wild exaggeration, and paints a frightening image, what my buddy was referring to is the habit of doing team drills to prepare us for disasters during our dives. These are something we are told to practice on every dive... and sometimes we do. But how much good do they really do?

In response to the promoting of a couple of friends, I have put together a one-day clinic is designed to build on the regular skill-building drills we push to students during tech programs... however, this takes them to a whole new level.

If you want, this can be a refresher, a kick at the can your tech instructor did not have the time or inclination to give you, or simply a wake-up call. I cannot guarantee anyone will end up naked, but I think you'll have fun anyway.

Sign-up is here, pay using PayPal. Course Fees are $99

Space is limited.

This should get interesting. I recently participated in a day like this and found it VERY beneficial. If you haven't attempted rescuing a toxing diver with a drysuit, large doubles, a scotoer clipped off, and a couple of stages, you'll be VERY surprised at how poorly you perform the first few times you do it, at least I was. I hope the response to this is great!

Oooooo, Steve! Do one in Florida, please! I'd love to sign up. Also, do we get to vote on who comes up naked?

...//....we get to vote on who comes up naked?

No worries sskasser, -don't need a vote. IT WON'T BE ME!

Seriously, anyone with good basic skills who is even half considering this course should just sign up. Steve is a master at determining YOUR comfort zone and teasing you out of it. Things like this just don't happen all that often, be there when it all started...:D

This sounds like a great idea, though I'm not a techdiver. My regular dive buddy (aka, my wife) and I dive on our own and are rescue certified. We try to practice and keep up, but some kind of continuing education like this for rescue would be amazing. We're just starting DM now and I know we are in for a rescue refresher there, but what you are proposing sounds more out-of-the-box and I personally would be very interested in something like this to challege and push rescue skills. Perhaps something like this exists, but I haven't heard of it? Anyway, I hope you get a great turn-out! I'm sure it'll be a blast.

I'm in. Just paid. It did add 20 bucks on for shipping and handling though? Oh well, should be fun.

Sent back the $20 that paypal magically added on without me wanting it to... also refunded Dennis' $20 too... Looking forward to seeing you at Dutch Jim. I will send off the other information via email.

still a spot open?
