And sorry Dahab doesn't have wrecks, except for the Jeep wreck in the Bannerfish bay.

Not quit true. There is a pedalo in 20m just of Happy Life too :)

As for the Sharm thing - Tiran is easily doable from Dahab as is Thistlegorm and Ras Mohammed.

Ras Mo from shore takes about an 90 mins from Dahab - much the same as sharm boats take.

Dahab diving is relaxed in that you can leave to dive whever you want, have a surface interval as long or short as you want then dive again when you feel like it. No boat schedules, no 8am marina hell at travco, no being stuck all day if you want 1 quick dive only and so on. Its just far more relaxed. Groups are generally much smaller too.

The main advantage Dahab has over Sharm though is its not Sharm - you aren't stuck in an expensive, characterless chain-outlet tourist trap for the stay.

Dahab and Sharm diving isnt a patch on the Brothers or deep south anyway - neither come close to that.

No mention here about the Loo issue in Dahab, why ever not...
Some cafeterias in the Blue Hole, Canyon, Eel Garden, Lighthouse, Moray Garden, and 3 Pools have clean bathrooms. Some others are not clean. It's just like the daily boats of Sharm; some have clean bathrooms and some don't.

In the Blue Hole they charge 2 Egyptian Pounds (around 0.25 Euro) for using the bathroom. Hope this helps.

LOL. Everything is free for the dive pros (food, drink, etc...) as long as they're doing work. Same in Sharm the guide does not pay for his lunch and drinks on the boat.

Because there isn't one. Southern Oasis toilets are fine, blue hole ones are fine to the point of being cleaned every hour with flowers and random stuff in them. Gabr is a boat so its a marine toilet like everywhere else. Ras Abu Galum is less refined but its 90 mins in the desert reachable only by camel so what do you expect?

And thats part of why its worth paying the premium, wherever you go - they tend to make sure the toilets are clean (atleast untill someone goes in there in rough see and pee all over the place without even flipping the seat up first or cleaning up their mess afterwards).

Hi all,

And thanks for the many suggestions! I'd already left for Egypt before being able to read some of them, unfortunately.

In the end I stayed/dived with Oonas in Sharm and had a fabulous time - friendly, laid-back and far enough from the centre of Naama Bay to be able to avoid the noise and tack if you wanted to. Packed in three courses and 17 dives in six days, and all in all found it great value.

I did Ras Mo, Tiran, the Thistlegorm and some local dives and thoroughly enjoyed all of it... Absence of sharks, but plenty of turtles, rays and dolphins!

Hoping to return in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks again,

Sandpipa.
