As much and as often that the Cozumel DM's dive, I am a bit surprised that this does not happen more.

Servando was working as a temp 'eventual' dive master this week and did not carry insurance. 3P covers it's full time DM's DAN insurance and I understand it Memo requires all DM's on Aldora boats to have it (a good policy).
Unfortunately most local DM's do not carry any insurance with the rationalize that they are responsible professionals that dive in a responsible manner and $150 is a lot of money. The sad truth is rarely do the local chambers treat someone who is diving outside limits because everyone has a computer (right?). Diving within limits reduces the risk of DCS but it does not eliminate it. Most hits are in the 'undeserved' category but in reality can be traced to dehydration or another underlying physiological condition.
Hopefully more operators will adopt policies of 'no DAN (or equivalent) no access to their boats' going forward.
In the meantime I hope Servando's friends will join me in trying to lessen his financial burden going forward from this event.

May have been in Tres Pelicanos first year of operation that I was really seasick. Between dives I could only lie on the floor of the boat. Servando insisted on putting me on oxygen. Told me it was good for sea sickness but I know he really thought I was bent. Great guy.

My wife and I dove with Servando many times when he was on the Blue Angel staff; he's a great guy and an excellent DM. We donated, and we wish him a complete and speedy recovery.

Hello family, friends, fellow divers, coworkers, Well first I want to apologize for not reporting, Well I know that there are many of you who are sincerely interested in knowing how I am after the decompression accident I had and well I have not reported nothing, like I'm out of orbit. Thank God and all the other divers who were there and Captain Gabriel, I am alive, literally. If it weren't for them I wouldn't still be in this world. I am very grateful to them and I know that I was very fortunate that they were experienced divers who remained calm, orderly and organized at the time of the rescue. Thank you very much... now the expression is literal. I owe them my life. They knew how to administer oxygen quickly and effectively, they put me on the boat without hurting me, they took very good care of me during the transfer to the dock (Punta Tunich). and the ambulance arrived very quickly too. In the chamber, everyone also did their job very effectively and quickly, from the nurses to the specialist, asked specific questions and also answered my questions bluntly in an objective and clear manner, they scanned me and explained the information that the devices that were used showed. . Since last night at around 10:00pm I left the hyperbaric chamber after a table 6 session. Five hours in the hyperbaric chamber breathing pure oxygen brought me back to life. However, I still came out with one of the symptoms. I have lost my balance when walking by about 30%, I estimate, but I have no other symptoms. This morning I entered the chamber again (table 5) for 2 and a half hours, with that I regained my balance. I am not at 100% but I estimate that I control my balance by about 80% when walking and I have the hope of recovering completely. over time

Thank you

Friday Servando went in for a third ride as he still had balance issues. He has a positive attitude but this was a little more complicated than a 'one and done' chamber treatment, any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank you 🙏

Thanks for posting this. I hope we are able to take care of his medical and other costs until he is back to normal. I'll be headed down to spend some time with him next week. He is actually a better man than most are aware and that's saying a lot because he is very well loved. Thanks for all of you that have given so generously.
