Just last week a former colleague of mine posted a picture of a mako at soma bay, now, how do you draw a conclusion on this, is it safe because it did not attack or is it unsafe because it is there. There are (not proven) theories prior Eid Al Adha, sharks could be more attracted to the coastlines close to the cities. This year Eid is at the of June..
I do not think North or South does matter, there has been attacks in all areas including Hurghada. A liveaboard at a remote reef is an attraction for silkies and owt sharks. If your wife is snorkeling alone while others are diving, she will be pretty vulnerable. But again, normally guides will not allow as they do not want any trouble them selves.
Junior OWD < 12 yo are limited to 12m with direct supervision by a pro or a guardian. That will limit some of the diving you can do together..

Seeing sharks in the Safaga bay is very rare. The diving there is much more beginner friendly. Better for snorkeling and much safer for a kid, not just because of sharks but because of the general dive conditions.
