I am using the suunto software v2.3 and it allows you to download personal data onto the cobra but how do you access this data on the cobra?

so what is the point of it?

Here is an example: A friend of mine had her Vyper stolen by another diver. The thief scratched the serial number beyond recognition, but wasn't smart enough to make changes to the personal data, which he could not see without connecting to the PC.
To make the story short, the thief was caught in the security cameras, the Vyper was connected to the PC revealing the legitimate owner --> Vyper was returned to her

Since the Vyper also stores the serial number in internal memory and that is read out by the software also the Personal Data is redundant.
