The Agerton is protected by the Alabama Underwater Cultural Resources Act. You may dive there but may not touch, disturb, or remove artifacts from the wreck. It is currently under study by the University of West Florida.

I do not know of a locomotive in the river but it would have to be near a past or present railroad unless it was being ferried somewhere.

When we read the UWF studies and Archeology reports, we understood that this was a protected site. I was just curious as to what was found in the past, not doing any excavatation/recovery - I'll leave that to the professionals and professors, I just enjoy the discovery of it all. I found a few videos of similar walking beam steam ships and some models as well. Very neat stuff!

Apparently the land near where the paddlewheel was sunk was the old lumber camp, which could have had railroad access?

Dunno if I believe the locomotive stuff. Some local just told us about it, saying it was excessively deep... In THAT river?
