I am always facinated how proud some divers are when they find a cheap item. Even if it not close to what they really need. Good thing air is free.

simcoediver:
I bought 2 of them from walmart took them down to 110 ft. One of the lights leaked the other was fine. I think what I needed to do was turn them on before going in the water, turning it on during the dive caused it to leak.Good price for a backup light though!

Please... when you NEED a backup light you REALLY NEED a backup light. They have to be completely reliable and not some paper weight from Wal*Mart!!

Oh let's run this scenario. 1500 feet back in a cave, primary light dies out. Just for fun, let's do an air share as well. Since we're only a little task loaded at this point, why not throw in a wall mart special as a piece of life support equipment that really is life support at this point. But hey, it worked on the surface right..........

Few good things are cheap and few cheap things are good!

Ranks right up there with all the lead they have imported to poison our kids toy jewelry!

Hi

If you choose to purchase re engineered junk sold as Walmart your heading for troubled waters at depth, spend your hard earned money once, and purchase a quality dive light that you know will back you up under any circumstance at any depth.

I was in a WalMart up here over the weekend looking for a kid's life jacket and in the boating section I come across what looks exactly like a Pelican Super SabreLite, except it says North 49 on it. The packaging is pretty plain, typical Made In China but it does say summersible divers light good to 100m. It was $8.97. For the price I figure what the heck thinking it might make a good daytime light and grabbed one.

Has anyone actually tried these lights out? Do these things actually work? I thought maybe they were the real thing, just distributed by the offshore manuafacturer under their own name. If so, I'm going to start bringing them down to Florida and I'll make a a fortune selling them. :)

Marc

Actually the old pelican saber light was the only light to survive Sheck Exleys first dive to 800 feet. BUT, the light at Wallmart is a cheep immitation and will flood most of the time.

I would not risk being left in the dark for $8.00.

As a serious cave diver I have spent up to $2000.00 plus for a cave light and $200 for small back-ups. I lke to bring the sun with me underground :)

Again, you get what you pay for, just make sure your buddy spent a little more money on theirs. :)

They flood like the dickens. It's been done before... I think Scuba Junkie or Axeman or someone?

That was not me..... I have a pelican thing on my web site but it is all real pelican stuff. Just a direct line to the distributor in Ontario which happens to be local and about 1/2 the price of the dive shops.

I would second the advice everyone has already given. Dive with proven technology. Don't try to cheap out.
