You never know what the conditions will be like in Monterey. You get what mother nature gives you. You currently dive in some pretty challenging conditions, so Monterey will be in your comfort zone.

Hiring a DM is an excellent idea.

If you are certified and have good experience diving in a dry suit, it will keep you much warmer especially the second dive of the day. If you are not certified and experienced in a dry suit, Monterey is not a place where you want to experiment.

Pt. Lobos, Monastery, Butterfly House are great dive sites with an experienced DM. There are great dive boat operators that will treat you well and drop you down into some wonderful sites.
