Hey folks, I was recently certified in May, and on Monday I'm starting my advanced class, with a dive at Redondo Canyon. I've also been on a boat dive to Catalina, dove at the casino, and a beach dive at Corona Del Mar. I live in Upland, and I'm really looking forward to getting in a lot of dives ASAP, as soon as I can find some buddies. Even bought all the equipment. I think we'll be diving at Woods Cove next weekend as part of the advanced class.

Anyway, if anyone is looking for a VERY concientious though inexperienced buddy to dive the casino or Laguna or whatever, let me know. I'm really looking forward to diving El Matador beach up north, past Point Dume, one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. I think the sandeaters are going there in mid-August.

I'm a bit hestitant to just show up at some of these dives and hope someone will buddy up with me, but maybe that's what I have to do.

Hey man

I am lookn for buddies. I have a rescue cert but dont have a huge amnt of experience given my cert level. I have done some beach dives around here Laguna, Redondo as well Catalina a few times but have dove away from socal as much as i have here. Just recently got my own gear so now truly free to dive whenever I want. I would like to explore up and down the coast. I bought the book "A divers guide to the best beach dives in southern" put out by the free magazine California Diver. Was thinking of exploring the dives in that book. I live in West Hollywood.

El Matador is not a dive I'd recommend for a newer diver. It's a tough hike down, usually a knarly entry, and a monster hike back up. Not trying to discourage you, just a friendly warning for what you'd be getting into.

Don't hesitate to come to a Sandeaters (http://www.sandeaters.org) dive. PhotoTJ is correct, in that you need to pay close attention to the level of the dive and dive according to your level of experience. Sandeaters has an e-mail list you can sign up on, and if you want to dive other than the scheduled dive, send an e-mail to the list and normally you will get a buddy.

I dive someplace every week between Malibu and Laguna Beach conditions permitting. Where usually depends upon conditions and mood. There are many excellent places to dive. PM me if you want to join me on a dive sometime. I went out on the Peace Thursday and so will not be diving until Tuesday. Tuesday I will be diving with some Germans I met on the Peace here for a dive vacation.

I'm not up for a dive this weekend but maybe we we can get together in a few weeks, most people on this board seem to live a little closer to the ocean than we do therefore its a little easier for them to get wet.pm me for a dive some time.I will be at catalina next weekend if you feel like jumping on the boat.I plan on doing some diving other than the dive park.

I go out pretty much monthly with some people from this board. You could always join us when we go. We just went to Catalina and had a blast.

PS I was the same as you about being hesistant at just showing up buddyless...but since then I have and I made great buddies because of it.

Every Saturday and Sunday morning you will find a great group of divers, better known as South Coast Divers, meeting at the Laguna Hills Mall (by Kings Fish House) at 7:30am and diving various sites in Laguna Beach. Group also meets Wednesdays at 8:30am, same place. You won't need a buddy, and it's a great way to gain experience and get familiar with the various dives sites in Laguna. Check out www.southcoastdivers.com. By the way, dive Woods Cove with someone who knows the site and how to read the conditions there...it's rocky and somewhat exposed, but can be a great place when the timing is right. Enjoy!

El Matador
dont do it man..... enless your built like a mule

ohh if you are diving up near those parts shot me an email...
allways down for beach dives....

El Madator is a bit of a walk, but not as bad as El Pescador or some other places like flat rock for example. But you should be in shape. But then if your diving, you should be in shape.

I was just at El Matador last Sunday with my girlfriend. It was PACKED !!! Never seen it like that. Biggest sets were about 3-4 ft., good for bodysurfing. I grabbed my mask and snorkel and went out past the breakers just for grins, and visibility was 0.0 feet. Maybe less.
