how about ca, does anyone know about monterey and the surronding areas , what the regs might be and if not how can i find out, i suppose just ask a lds down there mabey????????? :11:

Shore diving is prohibited along the lakefront, except for the quay between Oak Street and North Avenue. You must check in with the lifeguards at Oak Street before diving and present your certification card and photo ID (bring copies for their files to avoid some of the paperwork hassle), buddy diving is most definitely required.

Failure to obey means you get to talk to Officer Not-So-Friendly from CPD who, traditionally, will pistol whip you and then throw your unconscious body back in the water so that he doesn't have to fill out the paperwork. At least you'll sleep with the fishes. :D

Out on the lake, anything goes.

How much complicity does our certifying agencies have in getting these anti-solo diver regulations established?

It is quite acceptable to use a local cow as a dive buddy, since you are most likely diving in their pond to start with.

I think Nevada has more water than us.

Just wondering, how much asking should solo divers do when looking into local dive regulations? I mean, if the local city council woman or a busy body state representative starts hearing stories about "solo divers" asking questions, you can bet they'll go out of their way to.... shut down this dangerous use of our waters by these irresponsible individuals! I would edit in a wav file of someone pounding their fist down on a wooden lecturn while shouting that rant, but, I'm too lazy. Also imagine in the same breath said busy body commenting slyly to his/her fellow busy body ..well at least we can make a buck off them when they get caught..hehehe
Solo diving for me represents a pure form of liberty that I cherish, I for one do not want to lose it to the nanny state.

Quote me if you like "A nanny state is communism's cousin"
well put my friend, i to cherrish a long peacful solo dive, and i will second and third your statement, i enjoy a dive with a good dive buddy and also love a great solo dive and would hate to have some yahoo tell me i cant do it!!!!!!!!!!:11:

there are many kinds of nannys as there were many kinds of communism... I've had more freedom diving during communism than I have now with this so-called "non-working" democracy (there is not a single place on earth where it works = same as communism....)

It's all been thrashed by too much law and too few good divers

I believe Pt. Lobos is the only site along the Central Coast that requires a buddy.

Edmonds Underwater Park, in the Puget Sound of Washington requires you dive with a buddy.

I’m surprised that this thread has had so little activity. I’ll take a chance that someday, someone may read it and answer my question….

Does anyone know of any other areas in the Puget Sound Area (besides Edmonds) that has rules against Solo diving, or that has other similar requirements in place?

I find it interesting that the last 2 deaths at the scuba park I dive at was divers with a buddy at arms length (heart attack) dead is dead buddy or not. If you are properly trained as a solo diver carry the proper redundant gear then your probably safer than being paired with a buddy you never met, don't know if he is going to kill you in a panic situation or help you if you get into trouble. Me personally I like diving with a friend I trust and diving solo if it don't know who I'm with.
