On all of my stage regulators, I use those small screw-in spg's that are the equilant size of approx. 10 dimes stacked up and thread right into any high prossure slot on the 1st Stage. I rarely ever have to look at the spg, but it does come in handy from time to time - inexpensive, non-obtrussive and handy.

I agree, those work really well. In fact at the shop today we were 50/50. half of us don't use spg's and half use small or "button" spg's. The conversation was migrated into more of a preference for having a gauge, but not really needed if pre dive checks were performed.

Cheers :D

So Mike, let me ask you.... what is the point of this thread? You normally seem pretty level headed, but answering your own poll to discuss the necessity for a gauge on an O2 bottle seems strange to me.

What does not having one get you? No spindle orings. Big whoop. Pretty weird trade for a lack of information about your gas quantity. And having gas/tank specific regs.

Maybe he needs to save his cash.

Actually I only answered it so that I could see the results. I couldn't get to the poll without actually voting. Maybe there is a way to view the poll without voting on it? I don't know.

I am not condoning or condemning the use of a gauge. Nor am I trying to convert anyone in any way. I am just curious as to who uses spg's and who doesn't. and moreso the reason why they do or why they don't. I have explained my reasoning in an earlier post, but it is by no means the only way to do it.

Cheers :D

I just have a button spg for the first stage. Always check my pressure before jumping in the water....unlike those spare air testimonials.....:D

You are not going to know if you are losing gas because of a leak without it.

In my best JeffG impersonation..........

Yes you will, think about it.

Good point, but I check my gas before I get to the water and tie off the tank, then I check to make sure the tank valve is shut. If the gas goes away when I was in the cave, what difference does it make if it had a gauge or not? I still have to deco on backgas.

Cheers :D

Not if its on leash behind you. Of course a gauge doesn't help much there either...

But it is possible to lose gas and not know until some later portion of the dive. Or without a gauge to not know *** happened.
