I heard someone make this statement again recently and I started to think, what would be the typical non serious injuries incurred by divers?

I mean, it's not uncommon for a tennis player to get a tennis elbow or for a jogger to develop shin splints. Obviously with SCUBA there are serious injuries like DCS, Barotrauma or pneumothorax but I'm more wondering about the everyday minor injuries that is typically associated with scuba diving.

Suggestions?

Hernia. I'm dry for another couple of weeks because of mine.

Occasional back pain from lifting tanks (64 years old) and occasional ear or sinus pain following numerous shallow dives.

Skin torn off of your fingers from putting on a wetsuit is the one that comes to mind first.

So far I have had a few injuries diving, for various reasons, some my own fault and some not. Was hit by a boat in the head, but not not hard at all, just scraped the top, I was lucky with that one cos it could have been a lot worse, some idiot jumped off the boat when it was not in position so the captain had to cut the motors, was rough weather and it got thrown right into me... Had an urchin spine in my foot for a few months. Hit in the face by a tank. :(. Hurt my knee being knocked onto a boat half way up a ladder by a strong wave - knees do not bend that way :shocked2:. Calf injury from rock climbing with my gear on to get into a dive site. Cut my head falling off a boat ladder and having it hit me in the face - was rough weather and the boat was pitching a lot. Entered a wreck, which then developed strong surge so got thrown into a wall quite forcefully - made a hasty exit after that. My injuries have been reducing the more I dive though, which is relieving.

Commonly seen here are slips and falls. Im quite good at getting small cuts as well.
In fact i see far more diving related injuries on land than in water.

Scrapes and bruises from awkwardly moving around boats.

Scrapes and bruises from the ladder when awkwardly reboarding boats.

Scrapes and bruises from getting rolled in surf.

Cuts and scrapes from awkward exit onto sharp lava and rocks

cut on back of thumb from jagged steel edge on a wreck

Rash from fire coral/stinging hydroids, unknown source

rash on palm of hand from stinging hydroids on a mooring line

sore shoulder from hanging on mooring line in strong surge and current

sore shoulder and elbows from hauling multiple tanks and scooters to and from shore entry point

Outer ear infections

wear spots on feet from boots rubbing over multiple dives per day for multiple days

bumps and bruises as noted by others....... especially on shins! I did a bad crash-n-burn on a shore entry in Bonaire one day, got lots of bruises and sore muscles after that one.

slipped and fell in full gear once on stairs getting out of water.... tweaked knee and on crutches for 2 weeks. :shocked2:

I have seen a diver drop a tank on his foot, lost his toe nail and diving the rest of the week on a liveaboard. :shocked2:

I have also seen lots of new divers (here locally) make an asent without looking up and banging head on rocks under ledges. Bloody mess with a head injury!

We saw a guy slice his hand open trying to open scallops after a dive once. :shocked2:

Husband got an urchin impaled in his leg in Hawaii trying to do a very surgy manta dive... mantas 0, urchin 1.

:D
