Oh baloney.:mooner: Your plastic crap will be in a landfill in a few months, we "retro" guys will still be happily swimming around with our "throwback" stuff and we "retro" guys are obviously just better divers since we do what you cannot do.

Nemrod,

I have had the pleasure of diving with you a few times. Regardless of what gear you are wearing, you have excellent diving skills.

Well, thanks, the same goes for you Gregg, there is the assumption sometimes that everybody is an internet cowboy, that assumption is sometimes a mistake.

I do have brand new modern gear, love my Oxycheq wings and my little Titan LX but I make no pretentions that any of it will be around very long, say, oh, another three decades, but the Aqua Master will  and on that day, I will dive it for the fellow to prove it. :)

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

moved to Sea Hunt Era

The program Sea Hunt went off the air in the early 60s, the Royal Aqua Master left the stores in 1973 more than a decade later. In 1973 the Beetles, Elvis, Viet Nam, Nixon, and the draft were all history. The idea that any thread involving a double hose regulator belongs closeted away in the Sea Hunt forum is misguided. Should the Rolling Stones be closted in some vintage rock forum----Mick don't think so and the band started in 1962, at least 11 or 12 years before the U.S. Divers Royal Aqua Master went out of production and both the Rolling Stones and the Royal Aqua Master are STILL ON TOUR. In 1973 we had color TV sets, emission controls and muscle cars were dead four years. What gives?

Sea Hunt, baloney.

More people have questions about vintage gear now, and to get this information out to a wider audience by leaving something in the general forum, are points worth considering

Guess my Cyclon 300 that I bought in 1980 doesn't fit into your "retro" box. Still diving it. Designed in, what, 1957 or 58? I've dove the thing all over the world, been to 200' with it and in 36 degree water (ice dives). Not likely you are a better diver than I am, pal. Sounds like you just brag more than I do.

Well, have to run. Heading to Hawaii tomorrow for two weeks of diving. Cozumel early this coming spring and then (hopefully) GBR in Oz, next summer. Might add in a couple of ice dives when I get up to my home state of Wisconsin this winter and throw in a few spearfishing dives in the Gulf and a week or so in the Keys just to stay in shape in between. Cheers! :D

Hot air blew you in, the next gust will take you away, I will not put lipstick on this pig. Take care, maybe next year you will get to do a little more diving.

The Poseidon Cyklon 300 second stage is definitely one of my favorite second stages. I don’t particularly care for the first stage.

I have actually paired up some Cyklon second stages with a Conshelf first stage and it works well, but I have to run the IP about 170 psi.

One of the projects in my “to do” list is to change the demand valve spring on some of my Cyklon second stages so they will work with a more conventional IP (about 140 psi).

I starter repairing Cyklon 300 around 1971, during my first job in a dive shop (I was 14 at the time).

In the 70’s the Cyklon 300 was my favorite single hose regulator. It has always been a bit of a process to adjust it with its unbalanced first stage, but I always liked that second stage.

The reliability of a Cyklon is very good when it is working well, but again it will not come close to an Aqua Master, a vintage Mistral, or a Royal Aqua Master. Any of those double hose regulators are known to go many years without needing service.

Here are some of my Cyklon regulators. The short first stage has only one LP port for the second stage; that is an original Cyklon (predates the Cyklon 300). I don’t have that regulator anymore. I actually traded it for an Aqua Master. From a collector stand point that first stage is far more unusual that an Aqua Master, but I am more of a diver then a collector.

I also have a couple of sets of Poseidon tanks:

But when it comes to deep diving here was my equipment of choice just a few years ago.
You may be able to see the max depth indicator needle at 200 ft.
I have owned that Royal Aqua Master since 1971.

A couple of the guys from one of my favorite LDS just came back from the Oriskany and they said that with the hurricanes it has settled and the deck is now at 150 ft. That was confirmed by several divers and the dive master. The boat captain mentioned that they were the last “recreational” divers to dive down to the deck.

Then it has settled 10 or more feet. When I touched down this past spring I only noticed about a 4 foot difference from my previous dives at the same spot on the deck. Well, of course it settled, that would mean the top of the tower is now at over 80 feet? Between the current and depth it is fast becoming a dive for those who like it deep, lol. They put it to deep to begin with but I guess they knew what they are doing.

Why am I not surprised by your attitude and comments? My experiance on forums similar to this one seem to feature what I call "mega posters". These types of individuals tend to think of themselves as superior to the average poster and feels the need to position themselves as an "expert" on a particular topic, happily posting away pearls of wisdom that the lowly forum members should take as true information-as though it came from God himself.

The reality of a "mega poster", is quite different, as numerous studies have shown. The "mega poster", turns out to possess an insecure personality that needs to bolster his weak self image by inundating forums with his "holiness". When another member questions his credibility, or disagrees with something he has posted, the "mega poster", lashes out in a juvenile fashion at the offending forum member (as he has done above), hoping to intimidate the member into submission, thereby reestablishing his position (in his mind anyway), as an irreproachable expert and King. His posting count is his basis for his credibility and is there for all to see and submit to. The forum he posts in "belongs" to him. He has earned the right to scold, insult and castigate anyone he feels is threatening his status or opinions in the forum. Never forget that he owns the forum and is the expert, know it all and he cannot be doubted, laughed at or made fun of. He will strike out at the offender and will hope that other posters back him up, thereby justifying (in his mind), that he did the right thing. It is very important to this individual that he receive this all important reinforcement from others as his self-esteem is derived from the approval of others, not from within himself.

You need to get out of your illusionary Ivory Tower and get a life there, Nimrod. :D
