I lost my dive knife to the Atlanic the other day and I am looking to replace it. It was an Akona, and I was not all that impressed with it. It never had any rust problems, but I opened a clam once with it and it bent like it was made of lead rather than stainless steel. I was also never all that impressed with the latch, apparently for good reason. Previously I had a blackie collins wenoka with the z-lock that I loved. Unfortunately that one was lost on dry land. I don't see anything with a similar latching system on the market today. Any suggestions?

I have used use a Benchmade 100SH20 Yellow Dive Knife mounted to my harness for the last few years and it works out real well. If you go this route, search on line as prices widely vary. They are a popular all around knife for aquatic sports enthusiast.

That said, I have three blackie colins wenoka z lock knives and think that is probably the best all around dive knife ever made. I recently picked one up on an Ebay auction for a very reasonable price. It was in excellent condition. I just search for Blackie Collins dive knife or wenoka dive knife to find them

Well, I don't like clasp (folding) knives - I want to have my knife ready to go when I need it without fiddling around opening it

I would suggest titanium rather than SS - they hold an edge better and no rust

But if you like clasp, you might want to look at the Spyderco knives, they sound good

If you can figure out a way to carry it, this knife might fit the bill.

I prefer titanium, and a blunt tip

Knife fans: What do you like about knives that you don't get with with scissors or line cutters?

You can stab people who try to share your air

Go with a cheap knife. You will eventually lose it.

The idea of owning a steak knife with the tip cut off doesn't appeal to me

Don't disagree that you may lose one at some point

Do disagree with buying a cheap knife for that reason

I have a Dive Rite knife which costs like 5 bucks, EMT shears, and a scuba.com brand titanium knife which cost like 60 buck. I have used the EMT shears once and never used the other ones. I often don't even bring the scuba.com knife on dives anymore. You can get the Dive Rite knives on sale for $3.50 on scubatoys and I swear by mine.

Steak knives are cheap only because there's a machine that cranks them out by the thousands (millions?) and they don't require much manual work (grinding, polishing, etc.) to manufacture.

They're actually incredibly sharp and stay that way. They don't rust and don't get bent, the tip won't snap off and are about $10 for a pack of 12 at Sam's Club.

It doesn't get much better than that.
